NEWS SUMMARY WEEK 37

2 wins in a row

After an uncertain start to the season, Randers FC showed signs of getting into their stride in the home game against Hobro on 4 September. Although the scoreline was convincing - 2-0 - Hobro gave Randers FC a run for their money in a game which could easily have gone either way. This was the first time the two clubs had met in league match, and there were a number of ex-Randers players on the opposite side on this occasion.

The goals came in the second half after Hobro had come close several times, including in the second minute, when a sloppy back pass from Alexander Fisher left Hobro's Kasper Fisker alone in front of the goal, but luckily he shot wide. Hobro came close again in the 20th minute when a long-range effort from Svenne Poulsen was parried by David Ousted for a corner.
After the break, a clearly recharged Randers FC team took the pitch to lay siege to the Hobro goal, and were unlucky to see an Anders Egholm header cleared off the line after a goal kick 15 minutes in.

Own goal breaks the tension

In the 68th minute, Hobro finally yielded to the unwavering Randers pressure when Kian Christensen accidentally headed backwards into his own net for an own goal. Hobro were not prepared to give up, and returned fire almost resulting in a goal in the 80th minute when David Ousted pulled off a miraculous save at close range from Danila Arieta.

As play drew to a close, Ronnie Schwartz pounced on an Oliver Feldballe cross to score in decisive style, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Feldballe was not discouraged however, and returned to score in the dying minutes to put the outcome of the game beyond doubt.

Van der Schaaf out of order

While focus was on the ball during the Hobro match, Randers FC player Remco van der Schaaf committed a foul on Hobro's Mads Justesen, elbowing him in the head without the referee seeing. The incident was caught on TV however, and van der Schaaf was subsequently given a two-match quarantine order by DBU's Disciplinary Committee, and misses the next two games against Blokhus (away) and Viborg (home).

Blokhus blocked out

Randers FC's 2011/12 campaign rolled on to the seaside town of Blokhus, newly-promoted and keen to show what they could do against the former Superliga team from Randers. New signing Ronnie Schwatrz started a match for the first time, replacing Frank Kristensen as the target man up front.

Early scoring

Right from the start, Randers FC laid siege to the Blokhus goal, resulting in a goal in the 12th minute by non other than Ronnie Schwartz,
improving his claim to a regular place on the team considerably. Pressure was maintained for the rest of the half, and Tidiane Sane came close in the last couple of minutes before being robbed of the ball at the last second.

Blokhus made something of a comeback in the second half, applying pressure to the Randers defence including a long shot from Jonas Westmark which drifted over the bar. Randers gradually turned the tables, and Kasper Lorentzen came close in the 58th minute when his shot was pushed by the post for a corner by the Blokhus keeper. In the 71st minute, Lasse Rise (brought on for Oliver Feldballe in the 55th minute) rattled the bar from a cracking free kick, and Christian Keller hit the post from the rebound. Randers FC were unlucky!

Randers FC continued to press for a second goal and efforts from Frank Kristensen, Lasse Rise and Kasper Lorentzen in the final 10 minutes of play should have made the scoreline look even more convincing.
