NEWS SUMMARY WEEK 17

The 'Randers Miracle' comes closer
After the disastrous autumn season, things looked bleak indeed for Randers FC by the winter break, firmly anchored at the bottom of the table, with no wins and at least 25 points needed for survival. The change of trainer in October had brought early results in the form of a gradual halt to the stream of defeats and even a win in the last match before the break, but league survival still looked doubtful.

A fantastic run of 13 wins without defeat (a club record) since the start of the spring season has meant the club has one of the highest point hauls in the entire SAS League and has moved above the relegation line for the first time. Top teams such as the champions-elect FCK have been beaten, including the most recent, FC Midtjylland yesterday. The situation has no doubt been helped by Sønderjyske and AGF losing their matches at the weekend, but failure to win over FCM would still have left Randers FC no better off and the win means the club leapfrogs over both Sønderjyske and AGF to 9th position.

Randers FC vs. FC Midtjylland
Despite Randers FC's impressive run and strong form, the match against the 4th placed team with an equally high points tally in the spring season was never going to be easy. But new signing Yuri Movsisyan put an end to any doubts with two opportunist goals in the first half. The first was a left-foot shot from just outside the penalty area after only 15 minutes of play, and he followed up with a second 13 minutes later in a close duel with the FCM goalkeeper - who saved Yuri's first point blank effort but could not hold the ball, giving him the chance to blast it into the roof of the net.

FCM piled on the pressure in the second half and were unlucky not to score when the ball was cleared off the line by the Randers defence and came close on several other occasions, keeping the 8000-strong crowd on the edge of its seats.

Four matches to go
There are only four more matches to play in the season and Randers FC are not safe yet. There are tough away matches at FC Nordsjælland and 2nd-placed OB plus home matches against in-form AaB and 5th-placed Brøndby. But when you've beaten the rest of the best and are flying high, anything is possible!
